Paradoxa publishes articles on genre literature: science fiction, horror, mysteries, children's literature, romance, comic studies, the fantastic, best sellers, the occult, westerns, oral literature, and more.


The contents of Paradoxa are listed in the MLA International Bibliography, the American Humanities Index, and the Gale Directory of Publications and Broadcast Media.

In 2019, the Electronic Literature Organization, at their annual conference in Cork, Ireland, recognized Paradoxa no 29, “Small Screen Fictions,” edited by Astrid Ensslin, Lisa Swanstrom and Pawel Frelik with second place in the category “Criticism of Electronic Literature.”

At the 2015 conference of the Science Fiction Research Association (SFRA), Graeme MacDonald won the Pioneer award for “Best critical essay-length work of the year.” His article first appeared in Paradoxa no. 26, “SF Now.”

In 1996, Paradoxa was represented on the "New Directions in Critical Thinking in Academic Publishing" panel at the MLA's annual convention in Washington, D.C.

In 1995, Paradoxa was awarded runner-up for "Best New Journal of the Year" by the CELJ (Council of Editors of Learned Journals).
